Flash Gordon
by Mac Raboy
Emmanuel "Mac" Raboy loved Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon as a youth. Inspired by Raymond, he broke into comic books in the 1940s. His elegant drawings for Captain Marvel, Jr., The Green Lama, and other superheroes quickly made him famous.
In 1946, Raboy achieved his dream. He inherited the Sunday Flash Gordon page from Raymond's successor, Austin Briggs. From then until his death in 1967, Raboy chronicled his boyhood hero's Sunday adventures.
This Dark Horse series reprints Raboy's entire Flash Gordon run for the first time. We watch Flash's transformation from hero of Mongo to seasoned astronaut, as the space craze of the 1950's changed the strip's direction. Uncredited writers (among them s-f giant Harry Harrison) contributed some pretty good stories along the way. We give these books our highest recommendation.
There are four volumes in the set, each reprinting roughly five years of Sundays. Books are 8-1/2" x 11-3/4", 260 pages with color covers and b&w interiors.
$19.95 each.
